Yesterday after my talk at Falmouth University, a student asked for advice on her ‘journey’ into a career in illustration. I started to answer and soon found myself lost in landscape metaphors- paths not taken, the distant mountains of ambition and the false valleys of selling out and the Marshes of unrealised projects. The idea of metaphorical maps has long been in my mind, a visualisation of our collective creative journey. Returning now from Cornwall on an actual real life journey but I will be drawing on the train all the way home.
